How To Make Awesome Comics
Neill Cameron
David Fickling Books
If you’re interested in making awesome comics then let Professor Panels, eminent and world famous expert on all things comic be your teacher. According to him just three things are needed – your brain, a pencil and a few bananas – those are to nourish you.
There are six chapters in all and the first contains just two lessons, the first being ‘Anyone Can Make Awesome Comics’.
All it takes is the ability to draw stick people, then you need to give them a few yoga lessons to enable them to twist and turn every which way and then turn on your creative juices and let your imagination flow.

And flow they can as the second lesson is ‘Awesome Comics Can Be About Anything’ – even, ‘Thrilling Astronomical Balletic Soccer Tales’, should you wish to join forces with some pals as per the example and mix things up.
Chapter 2 focuses on Awesome Ideas – how to get them (some interesting characters are suggested herein) and how to make them even more awesome. Art Monkey puts in some concepts here and challenges.
By the time you reach Chapter 6, all you need to know is how to put everything together – it gets a bit technical so be warned, and choose an enticing name for your publication; but once done you could perhaps become world famous. Eight appendices conclude the book proper leaving sufficient pages for Neill Cameron to do a bit of self promotion concerning his terrific series.
The creators of Stitch Head, especially the graphic novel versions will certainly not need guidance from Neill Cameron: they’re amazing at creating their own comic books including this latest:

Stitch Head The Ghost of Grotteskew
Guy Bass and Pete Williamson
Little Tiger Books
Set in Castle Grotteskew, this ghostly comedy unfolds in four parts. The titular ghost is that of a villainous rogue, Mawley Cracklebone who claims that the heart inside Stitch Head once belonged to him. Can this really be so? Stitch Head’s world certainly begins to fall down around him but will he surrender to the dastardly ghost and do as he is told? And who does the heart really belong to?
