123 Counting Tree! / ABC Learn With Me! / Family

Here are some new board books from Little Tiger – thanks to the publisher for sending them for review.

These are both titles in the My First Touch and Trace series. The counting one follows a pattern: on the verso is a numeral beside which is an arrow to show the direction in which the child’s finger should move to make the symbol and beneath the numeral is a simple two word caption such as eight bees, together with the appropriate amount to dots. There are two counting practice pages the first from 1 to 5, the second from 6 to 10 and the final spread invites little ones to count the brightly coloured butterflies depicted.

The ABC book allocates a single page to each letter of the alphabet showing how to write both the capital and lower case letters and there’s a fun illustration by Laura Silveira, the subject of which begins with the relevant letter for example, B b is for bus.
Gentle, playful learning for very young children.

From gorillas grooming to magnificent manatees and diving dolphins, little humans can find out about the unusual habits of creature parents and their families.
Patricia Hegarty’s lyrical rhyming text evokes calm and Britta Teckentrup’s gorgeous scenes of the creatures in their natural habitats bring to life the multitude of ways that animals nurture, support and protect one another.

There are die-cuts that allow young humans to peep through the board pages, and each turn of the page reveals a different landscape be it snowy, watery, forest or savanna, somewhere in the world.

If you’ve ever wondered what ‘family’ means to polar bears, this board book is for you and your young child. With Patricia’s gentle narrative this is ideal to share at bedtime.
